The Abiding Word Church has its roots in March 1995 when a group of young Christian men and women undertook an outreach project to share the Gospel with men and women of the security forces. It is generally believed that personnel of the security forces are often anti-spiritual and have no interest in Christian activities. The very fact of the existence of the church is adequate proof that this widespread belief has no basis in fact.

Starting with about 10 members the church has grown to a unique membership comprising people from all walks of life, businessmen and women, civil servants, medical professionals, students, artisans, etc. The beginning of the church was indeed a difficult one: response from the community where the church was located was poor; the language used for communication in the church was a challenge since members were from different ethnic backgrounds, and proximity to offices in the area required strict noise controls.

In spite of these the church through much fasting and prayer, evangelism, effective Bible studies and care for one another has overcome the challenges and created a closely knit family of Christian brothers and sisters.
